Job Description Templates
A good JD does two jobs: it helps candidates self-select before they apply, and it sets clear expectations once someone's hired. Every JD should cover the same five things — only the specifics change by role.
What every JD should include
- Role title and where it sits in the team/reporting line
- 3-5 core responsibilities, not an exhaustive task list
- Required skills and experience, separated from "nice to have"
- What success looks like in the first 90 days
- Compensation range and work location/mode, if you're willing to disclose it upfront
HR Executive
Core responsibilities: end-to-end recruitment coordination, onboarding new hires, maintaining employee records, running payroll inputs, and handling day-to-day employee queries.
Accountant
Core responsibilities: maintaining books of accounts, GST and TDS filings, reconciling bank statements, processing vendor payments, and preparing periodic financial reports.
Sales Executive
Core responsibilities: prospecting and qualifying leads, running product demos, managing the sales pipeline, and closing deals against a monthly target.
Software Developer
Core responsibilities: building and maintaining features per the sprint plan, writing tests, reviewing peers' code, and fixing production issues in their area of ownership.
